Although many other Spanish schools here in Costa Rica offer a Spanish package full of programmed extras we have chosen the alternative route.  We keep our prices low by not including all the extras.  If the student is interested in these things then the cost is charged to the individual choosing the service instead of raising prices for everyone.  We hope that you'll choose to get involved in all the town has to offer. 
 

	They can help you organize dance classes, cooking classes, soccer nights, teaching English, Language exchange nights, Tours to the volcano and valley, quad tours, National park, coffee tours, Orchid gardens, Rafting in Orosi and Turrialba, hotsprings pools, trout fishing, sugar mill, horseback riding, waterfall tours, bike rentals and butterfly farms!  Laundry service is available, Wi-Fi is free and many hiking tours can be done for free...P.S. a hammock is always nice as well!  -Susan USA 2008

Town services include tons of restaurants, dentists, doctor, pharmacy, bank and post office, souvenir shops, supermarkets, hair and nail salons, massages, tattoos, photocopy and internet services, bike repair shop, bakeries, video rentals and a clothing repair sewing shop. 

Otiac offers free wifi, stamps and post office, souvenirs, local and national tourist info, international skype calls made on a portable phone not computer, telephone cards, book exchange, Orosi valley
t-shirts, local Coffee and a 10% discount to all Spanish Language school students on meals in our onsite Restaurant/Soda Gekko's

Tuesday- Soccer
Thursday- Dance classes
Friday- Language exchange from 6:30-8:30 pm
Hot tub night is at least once a month

Activities offered by Montaña Linda & Otiac Costa Rica
These are our standard activities available that we offer all year round unless stated otherwise. For more details feel free to talk to us when you arrive.  If you're interested in any other special nights feel free to organize them with other guests.
	Dance classes: Salsa, merengue and cumbia Dance classes are offered once a week directly with one of our teachers.  Classes can be in her house or with a large group in Otiac or combined with cooking classes. Usually Thursday evening.
Cooking classes: Learn how to make empanadas, tortillas and chimichurri and have a chance to eat it too!  Cooking Classes are available with minimum 5 students and can be combined with dance classes.  Usually Thursday evening.
	Soccer night: Join the Montana Linda team and play with us against a local Orosi team.  Not to worry, we choose our opponent team based on ability and skills.  Or just be a spectator and cheer us on!!  Usually Tuesday evening.  Price is based on number of participants
Hot Tub night: Take a travelling break and Relax and in our fire powered hot tub with space for 12.  The hot tub is sparked up at least once a month and can be ordered for special occasions.
	Language Exchange night: Improve your Spanish skills with everyday conversational exchanges.  Formal exchange night is Friday during volunteering months only, but informal exchanges can be done any day you're available.  Please ask in the Montana Linda Spanish School Costa Rica office in Otiac.

Here at Montaña Linda we do not want to "obligate" you into activities.  and we don't want you to pay for things that you're not interested in.  Our hope it that you will naturally feel comfortable joining in on the activities that suit your style and budget.  Dance classes, Volunteering teaching English or joining us for exchange night, watch or jumping in our soccer nights or just taking the time to talk to the owners of the local businesses that you are frequenting! 

This is the best type of practice you can get.  Why?? As it is a “Natural” practice.  As mentioned earlier our very typical Costa Rican town is “tranquilo” and welcoming to foreigners which makes for many down to earth realistic opportunities of meeting locals and making new friendships.  Every time you go out, your trip becomes a practice opportunity as our small town automatically generates a “Hello how are you” type mentality.

Want some extra extra language practice?? Sign up for an "Intercambio" with one of the many English students from our volunteer program that would love some extra practice as well.  It's a great way to not only improve your Spanish but a great way to make friends and be more involved in the local culture!

 

How many activities should I plan in a day and what do most students do before/after class?

After class, many students will go hiking and exploring the area together, taking a trip to Cartago to visit the fruit market or just chill out doing homework.  All of these things are added practice opportunities that can’t be beat as this will help you feel part of the community and therefore more empowered to try using your Spanish speaking skills.  Do remember to save time for homework and not schedule to much in at a time.  Most do a short trip before or after class and spend the rest of the time in practice opportunities in and around town. Our relaxed atmosphere allows you to become involved with the community at your own pace and style giving you a more realistic idea of Costa Rican life.
