Only available for those taking Spanish classes or accompanying family members. All students are housed in a private room within the family house with no private bathrooms
 
If you're interested in jumping into the language we have great homestay families that fill that need. Living in a homestay family will introduce you to the Costa Rican culture while helping you practice your Spanish.  We have families withOrosi Valley, Montana Linda, Costa Rica Homestay-Saying Goodbye many children of different ages that can help you throughout your different levels of Spanish Language development.
 
Our families are all based in town within a maximum walk of 5 minutes to both our Hotels and Language School.  Our families are a mixture… from one to many children… younger to older…active to tranquilo…no English experience to some English experience and usually  with children of different ages that can help you throughout your different levels of Spanish as you develop along the way. Please let us know the following when signing up to help us co-ordinate the right match... especially if you have younger children.

Orosi Valley, Montana Linda, Costa Rica Homestay outside houseWe do have many families on our homestay list so space is not a problem anytime throughout the year.  We always book 1 foreign student per family unless a double up is requested.  All families offer the student a private room with shared bathroom within the family house, including breakfast and dinner. 

Laundry is not included, but can be done at the family or hotel.  Although families do not serve lunch, you can make your own in your family, in our guest kitchen in the hostel, eat at our on-site restaurant "Gekko's" or at one of the many restaurants there are here in town.  Remember that all Montaņa Linda students receive a 10% discount on all meals at "Gekko's". 

All families have hot water and supply bottom & top sheets, blankets, pillowcases and towels so you don't have to worry about bringing yours along. There are no mosquito nets in the rooms as it is not really necessary. Orosi Valley, Montana Linda, Costa Rica Homestay-at the church

Families are regularly used to having vegetarians, and in most cases we are also able to accommodate Vegans as long as the student was willing to jump in the kitchen to give help with ideas.
Homestays are arranged for students taking classes only or for those family members that are accompanying the student.  The cost per non studying student is $12.00 per night.
Unfortunately we do not give out homestay family details until arriving, as students often choose to stay longer then planned which makes it hard for us to book for this in advance. 
We always do our best to make a good match!
Sharing a room in the family makes no difference in the cost price.
 Any extensions to your stay in family MUST be confirmed through our Spanish School office, if not a surcharge of $50.00 will be applied to your bill.

A family is great for increasing your Spanish Language skills but it can be a bit difficult to go straight into a family with a beginners level Spanish.  The best is to spend the first week in the hostel or guest house and then move into the family in your second week of study. You don’t need to book the family right away if you don’t feel comfortable.  You can change your package every Sunday, so you can go decide after you have arrived and have had a week or so of classes under your belt.

Time outside of the classroom would be spent hiking and doing nature based trips and activities but most important is being with family members, which will increase your learning rate dramatically. Please remember to take into consideration time for homework and conversational practice each day!

Some families can house 4 family members and
will make your trip educational and unforgettable!

If your interested in sending younger students, we accept individual students from 17 on with written parental consent.  In this case we would choose a family that has a family member of the same age and would ensure that the student is constantly monitored.

 FAQ about HOMESTAY
I would like more language immersion but I am afraid that my level of Spanish is not that high.  Can I switch back to the hotels after I’ve tried it out?
Homestay are a great help with your Spanish and give you an insight to Costa Rican life that can only be experienced while living in a family, but we do suggest that you have a base before moving in. Your best bet is to start in the hotel for at least the 1st week and move to a family only when you are ready both with nerves and language skills as it can be very offensive to the family to enter and then leave after a few days.
What are some advantages of the Homestay?
You'll have no choice but to practice speaking your Spanish so your skills will  develop that much faster. Homestay are a great help with your Spanish and give you an insight on Costa Rican life that can only be experienced while living in a family.  
I would like to bring something for my family...what do you suggest?
Bringing a gift is a very nice thing to do.  We usually suggest something that shows your country or local area... calendar or photo book, food is always good as well.
What is included in the homestay study package?
Nights, breakfast and dinners are included in the homestay package price.  All homestay family housing is in a private room and meals are eaten in the family house.  Laundry is separate.
What economical class are the host families?
Most Costa Rican families are middle class.
What is the average distance to school?
All families are located within a 5 minute walk from the hotels and the Spanish school.
How many foreign students stay in each house?
We have many families on our list so we place only 1 foreign student per family unless students choose otherwise. We suggest that friends wanting to be housed together should not have more then 2 students per family.  
When do I get my family info?
Family information is not given out before arriving as many times students stay longer then planned which makes it hard to book this in advance.  Info is given upon arrival to the Spanish school offices
