We accept students of all levels from children at writing and reading age up to adults
that have not been in the learning circle for many years. We can set a course structure
for beginners up to advanced putting the emphasis on what is important to you.
For example: you always carry your body with you and can use it to demonstrate what part
hurts, so, if you feel the parts of the body are not important to learn, then you don't
learn them. We understand that every person has a different way of learning and a
different goal and that's what we want to you learn.
For those who are just beginners, we suggest following the direction of our self made book, allowing students to gain a basic knowledge of present, past and future while practicing conversational skills throughout all classes so you can use what you have learned.
Once the basics have been learned, the student can then set the direction towards more
specific grammar or just conversation. If you choose conversation, classes can be based
on specific grammatical points or just general allowing the student to practice all
grammar points together as it would normally occur in everyday conversation.
We receive many students that have studied in universities or have taken classes at other schools here in Cost Rica and would like to apply their grammatics to more everyday conversation. Because our class size is small, the student can choose the teaching style the fits his/her learning abilities. How do we place you in classes? We do not use any form of testing at our school as we have found it is not the best way to judge a student. Many students can write or know their grammar but have troubles speaking and vice versa, so what we do is this. When you arrive, we give you our book and ask you to start looking through it. When we meet, we analyze were you are in the book, what goals you have and your learning capacity. From there we make groups, when applicable, ensuring that each student has the right type of classmate. We have found, in our experience, that it is very unlikely that more than three students are compatible, which is why we never go larger than three per class, something that most schools can't say. How many weeks of study will give you a good base?
Well we have found that most beginners with good learning habits benefit most from our 2-week program. During this time you should gain the ability to form comprehendible sentences in the present tense, form questions both negative and affirmative, use forms of the future and past tenses, and feel quite comfortable carrying on everyday conversations including understanding what is being said to you…. something that a lot of people forget. |
